NYFW Diaries: Stylish Standouts

Before we talk about the show, let's take the time to appreciate the looks from my time in NYC! While my time in the city was short, I want to make great use of some of my more interesting looks, which I feel NYC is the perfect backdrop for!

I’m a bougie airport fit kinda guy, something about wearing a dope item to the airport feels right! I went with my DapxGap sweater and hoodie combo. While not a set, the color combo is perfect, paired with my Jordan Spizikes and denim Versace jacket... nothing crazy. I chose the Jordans for the weekend because they were brand new and super comfortable, and I knew I could break them in without hurting my feet.

Now, I'm not gonna lie, I changed my clothes like twice a day naturally, and I wasn't making any exceptions during this trip.

I landed in the city early and it was warm, so I settled for my idea of a tank top and shorts! These denim shorts are a combination of 3 pairs of jeans and a jacket! I was inspired by a similar pair someone else wore in all black, and I knew that with different shades of denim I could create something cool! While making these shorts, I had no idea what I was doing or what the final look would be! I treated these as a work of art, a sculpture if you will! Upon closer inspection, you can see that they are made from a pair of stone-washed Levi’s as the base, with a light wash and a dark wash added in tiers. I added the button details from the vest to the crotch of the shorts and the waistband of the jacket to the waistband of the shorts. For the shape of the shorts, I added the dark denim to the crotch for a more oversized look. Paired with my white portal top, meant to mimic the classic white ribbed tank top, this design I drafted years ago was inspired by the pattern drafting techniques of Tomoko Nakamichi.

After brunch at Junior's, I changed into something more casual for drinks before dinner. I've been dying to wear this shirt I upcycled from Fashion Nova years ago. I wore it once to the Smokin' Grooves Festival and haven’t had the right moment since. I basically took a simply oversized shirt and, with a contrasting color fabric, ruched the side front just for some dimension. Paired with some houndstooth denim from the Dap x Gap Collection and this Versace Couture Denim jacket I got on a huge sale, like a huge sale. This was my most unconventional look from the weekend, wasn’t entirely planned, but the best looks come by mistake.

Dinner was kept simple; this look was group chat approved. About a year ago, I found this beautiful soft leather grey blazer at the thrift store. It came with covered buttons but had silver buttons in the pockets. After switching the buttons, it sat in my closet until it was time to shine! Paired with a simple white shirt and black wax-coated Levi’s, I love the cut of these pants, but the wax coat elevates the look. Paired with my black Dr. Martens and my Coach wallet as a bag, it was the perfect look for dinner in the theatre district.

It's show day! This is a separate blog post. I need to wait for the pictures to come back first! Naturally, I chose Haus of Klyde. My aim was to be presentable, stand out, comfortable, and dramatic without being gimmicky. The fabric of this suit speaks for itself - a burgundy foil-coated denim crafted into an oversized pant and shacket (short-sleeved jacket). I designed the suit myself to resemble a modern zoot suit, pairing it with my black Dr. Martens for comfort and using my Coach wallet as a crossbody bag. I decided to skip wearing a T-shirt underneath and instead layered on necklaces. This ensemble was ideal for a day at work and even led to a pleasant lunch!

After the show, I opted for a relaxed style by wearing my houndstooth denim pants from the DapxGap collection and a self-made grey portal top. It was a casual outfit as I spent time with friends, had some drinks, and indulged in cheesecake at Juniors. Later in the evening, I changed into my all-time favorite pants - light blue cotton ones that I meticulously designed with double cargo pockets, a drawstring waistband, belt loops, and a perfect cut tailored to fit me perfectly. I matched them with a white sweater from American Eagle, a red leather beret, and my Jordan spizikes as I wandered through the city, eventually ending the night slightly intoxicated while ordering a slice of pizza.

Honorable mentions to my accessories for the weekend, which included my red Louis Vuitton bag I got from my old job. They had money and just gave away things. My silver framed glasses from ASOS, that, for as cheap as they were, get a lot of attention! I also recently got this king-size crystal blue single earring!

Throughout the weekend, there were plenty of fashion and drinks, but what mattered most were the friends and positive energy! Grateful for the chance to stay connected with college peers and fashion friends! Stay tuned for my next post where I'll delve into the show and share some behind-the-scenes insights!
